Tuesday’s victory of Saudi Arabia over Argentina in the first round of Group C of the World Cup in Qatar is, at the moment, the biggest surprise of the tournament. Unfortunately, not all of Herve Renard’s players had a happy ending. Salman Al-Faraj and Yaser Al-Shahrani, who have been the main players of the team so far, will not play in this year’s world championships.
Out for longer
In the case of Salman Al-Faraj, we learned about his health problems much earlier. The central midfielder, who is the brains of the Saudi Arabian national team, had to leave the field in first-half stoppage time. All because of an injury to his right leg, which may exclude him from the game for several months.
As for Yaser Al-Shahrani, the situation is much more complicated. The centre-back, knocked out during the match by his own goalkeeper, will spend many weeks recovering from numerous facial bone fractures. The footballer, on Wednesday, is to be transported to one of the German clinics, where doctors will bring his head to the right condition. In this case, however, we can talk about a certain happiness in disguise. Initially, it looked like Al-Shahrani’s injury could end much worse.
Recall that the Poles will meet the Saudi Arabia team on Saturday, November 26 at 14:00 at the Education City Stadium. A possible victory of Czesław Michniewicz’s charges will significantly bring them closer to the promotion to the knockout phase of the Qatari tournament.
