The head of the RFU Dyukov allowed a change of confederation from UEFA to the Asian one
President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov spoke about the country’s possible transition to the Asian Football Confederation. His words are quoted by Sport24.
According to the functionary, the RFU is now in dialogue with the Union of European Associations (UEFA). “If a technical solution is found for the next U-17 tournament, we will take some step forward towards our return to tournaments under the auspices of UEFA. But we have the possibility of changing the confederation,” Dyukov admitted.
In March of this year, RFU General Secretary Maxim Mitrofanov explained the country’s refusal to transfer to the Asian Football Confederation. He emphasized that UEFA annually invests in the RFU an amount three times greater than that received by the winner of the Asian Champions League.
Last December, all members of the RFU executive committee considered it pointless to move to Asia without guarantees from the International Football Federation (FIFA). It was decided that the organization will continue to contact UEFA upon the return of Russians to tournaments.
