16-year-old Russian tennis player breaks WTA record

Mirra Andreeva broke the WTA record for most victories under 17 years of age

Russian 16-year-old tennis player Mirra Andreeva broke the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) record by winning seven WTA-1000 U17 tournaments. Opta reports this.

Andreeva defeated Czech Linda Noskova in the second round of the prestigious WTA tournament in Madrid in three sets. Thanks to this success, the Russian woman surpassed the achievement of the American Amanda Anisimova. She held the previous record (six victories).

For reaching the fourth round of the tournament, Andreeva will compete with the winner of the match between Czech Marketa Vondrousova and US representative Shelby Rogers.

Previously, Andreeva was included in the long list of the ranking of the most promising Russians under 30 according to Forbes. The best result in the Russian’s career at the moment is reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open 2024.
