The International Basketball Federation extended the suspension of Russia and Belarus
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has extended the suspension of Russia and Belarus from tournaments under its auspices until December 2024. This was reported on the website of the Russian Basketball Federation (RFB).
The decision was made at a meeting of the FIBA Central Bureau. RFB President Andrei Kirilenko was present at it, but, according to the rules of the international federation, he had no right to participate in the discussion of certain issues related to Russia and Belarus.
In addition, changes to the basketball rules were adopted at the meeting, which will come into force on October 1, 2024. These include allowing coaches to withdraw their challenge request during a match.
In March 2022, FIBA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in competitions under its auspices. The organization hosts World Cup and EuroBasket matches.
