This Friday, coach Jurgen Klopp praised coach Arne Slot, currently at Feyenoord and identified as a possible successor to the German at Liverpool, in a press conference. On Thursday, the Dutch commander admitted to having been approached by the Reds.
“I don’t know anything about that. I’m not involved in the process (of searching for a new coach). I would really like it if he is chosen, that he wants to accept the position and is enthusiastic. I like his team’s style of play. Everything What I hear about him is that he’s a great guy,” said Klopp.
Arne Slot is having a good season in charge of Feyenoord and occupies second place in the Dutch Championship, with 75 points in 31 games played. Furthermore, he was Dutch Cup champion after beating NEC (Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie) in the final 1-0.
The Dutch coach revealed that he would like to coach Liverpool next season and is awaiting an agreement between the teams.
“The only thing I can say at the moment is that the clubs are in negotiations. In the meantime, I sit in the waiting room and wait for what will happen. I want to make it clear that I want to go to Liverpool. For now, I am waiting to see if the clubs reach an agreement. I’m confident that will happen”, he told ESPN.
Klopp will lead the English club until the end of this season. For the Reds, the German’s main titles were the Champions League (2019), the English Championship (2020) and the World Cup (2019).
Liverpool are fighting to win this year’s Premier League and are in third place, with 74 points from 34 matches. Arsenal leads, with 77, and Manchester City occupies second place, with 76 points, but with one game in hand.
In search of the last trophy in the “Klopp Era”, Liverpool will face West Ham this Saturday, at 8:30 am (Brasília time), at the Olympic Stadium in London, in the 35th round of the English Championship.
