Do you wash yourself every day? Experts say straight: It’s a mistake! “Harmful obsession”

A daily shower is a regular item in many homes. Many people cannot imagine not washing before or after work. And some people do it even several times a day. It turns out that most of us wash too often. Scientists say that with daily baths we can do more harm than good.

It would seem that taking care of hygiene has only advantages. We regularly fight bacteria and dirt, we feel better and we smell better. Many people find it difficult to imagine a day without brushing their teeth and body and washing their hands regularly – especially after the pandemic. However, while teeth and hands do require more frequent contact with the cleaning agent, we should significantly limit bathing.

“The current obsession with hygiene may be harmful.”

Abstaining from daily showers may seem anti-social. But medical experts point out that the current obsession with hygiene may be harmful to our health

– we read on the website.

We wash ourselves a lot. Definitely more often than it was even a few decades ago. To a large extent, this is because today we have constant access to showers, hot water and hygiene products. Every day we meet dozens of people and we want to present ourselves impeccably to them. God forbid, someone will feel a slight smell of sweat or a not-so-fresh aroma from their mouth because we recently ate yogurt. In many cases, we do not wash ourselves at all, out of real need.

People wash every day because it is ‘socially acceptable’

– said Sally Bloomfield, professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, quoted on the website.

Excessive washing leads to washing away the natural layer that protects our skin against external factors. Skin deprived of this protection is “barren”, more prone to irritation, and has a harder time coping with the presence of bacteria and other microorganisms.

How often should we wash?

Some time ago, the words of dermatologist Sandy Skotnicki received considerable attention. The specialist said that every day we should focus only on the three most sensitive places on our body. We wash the rest far too often. More about this in the article below:

There is no one right answer for everyone when it comes to washing your skin and hair. The ideal frequency depends on your skin and hair type, how much you sweat and how dirty you get

– said dermatologist Joyce Park.

Experts indicate that baths should usually be short, just a few minutes. Water temperature is also important. There are many jokes on the Internet about how women, especially, can create hell in the shower. This is the worst thing we can do for our skin and hair. This dries them out, making them more susceptible to damage and external factors. If we feel the need to bathe every day, it is worth focusing on the most sensitive places, those where the most sweat accumulates. Experts pay special attention to people who have dry, atopic skin, prone to eczema. These should reduce the frequency of bathing and give up irritating hygiene products.
