Music, bagpipes, rowdiness, amazing atmosphere and thousands of people, that’s how it was received the 60th edition of the well-known Festa do Pulpo, considered a Festival of International Tourist Interest. And it is that, for yet another year, the City Council of O Carballiño, in Ourense, has made its famous octopus, but this year with great news: He has broken his own record.
There have been 30 pulpeiros and pulpeiras those in charge of preparing the largest octopus tapa in the world to date, with 515 kilos presented on a gigantic plate 5.37 meters in diameter And they did it in record time. less than 11 minutesas published by ‘La Voz de Galicia’.
At 8:00 p.m. is when they began to bite the octopus, a moment that did not last long: at 8:11 p.m. they had already achieved it, showing off their impressive speed.
There were many compliments received by these octopus professionals. Francisco Fumega, the mayor of O Carballiño, dedicated a nice speech to them in which he considered them the “authentic protagonists” and thanked them that “without them it would not have been possible to have achieved the declaration of International Tourist Interest”.
The 30 people in charge of preparing the octopus were able to offer up to 2,000 portions to the attendees and they did not forget the most important ingredients, salt, paprika and olive oil, thus leaving an incredible taste in the mouth of the lucky ones who were lucky enough to try it.
This year the festival celebrated its 60th edition and no wonder the long lines that formed, which filled several streets from where the party was celebrated. The hundreds of people who came just wanted their octopus ration that was accompanied by a good wine and dessert.
One of the pulpeiras who was in charge of distributing the octopus to the attendees wanted to make it clear that “there is a lot of difference between this [pulpo] and others”. “With the affection with which we treat the octopus here, it is not treated elsewhere,” she assured.
