The authorities of The United States arrested 78 Cuban migrants who landed in the South Florida Keys in the last 24 hours, as reported this Saturday by Walter N. Slosar, in charge of the country’s Border Patrol (CBP) in the Miami sector.
Slosar posted on Twitter some photographs of precarious boats where the Cubans, as detailed, arrived on US shores in five separate landings.
At the moment it is unknown if children were traveling on these boats, as usually happens on some occasions, and the health status of the migrants has not been reported.
The arrest of these 78 Cubans comes two days after the border authorities detained another 19 Cubans, after they arrived at Marathon Key, one of the islets of the tourist Keys of South Florida.
In a statement, the US Coast Guard reported this Friday the repatriation of 36 Cubans last Tuesday, after several interdictions on the Florida coast.
Is about “the year in which our forces have significantly increased our patrols with the intention of finding people in danger and rescuing migrants from dangerous and extremely overloaded boats”Capt. Robert Kinsey of the US Coast Guard 7th District said in the statement.
“As of October 1, 2021, there are 61 empty seats at family dinners because people made the decision or were convinced by smugglers to go to sea in these types of vessels,” he added.
According to the most recent figures provided by the federal entity, since October 1, 2021, the date on which the current fiscal year began, Coast Guard crews intercepted 3,963 Cubans, compared to the 838 intercepted in the previous fiscal year. (YO)
