Fishing exports fell 43.56% in the first two months

The Institute of Economic and Social Studies (IEES) of the National Society of Industries (SNI) detailed that the volume of exports in five of seven industrial sectors showed a negative behavior in the first two months of the year. In this sense, the fishing sector turned out to be the most affected, with 43.56% less in its volume of shipments, followed by the metalworking sector (-33.8%), chemicals (-15.01%), textiles and clothing (-13.06%) and non-metallic mining (-2.45%).

This decline was mainly explained by the decrease in exports of cuttlefish and balloons, as well as frozen squid and squid, which showed a contraction of 70.57%, going from sending 79,357 MT to 23,354 MT. Likewise, exports of frozen horse mackerel – except roe and milk – went from 12,113 MT to 8,612 MT in the first two months of the year, 28.91% less.

However, not all fish exports were negative. Frozen mackerel, for example, unlike livers, roe and milk, experienced an impressive increase of 374.86% between January and February of this year. Along these lines, shipments went from 2,014 MT to 9,566 MT. Other notable increases were those of anchovies, fresh or chilled, with the exception of livers, eggs and milk, with 37.46% more, while whole frozen prawns reported an increase of 20.39% during the first two months.

Meanwhile, the steel and wood sectors had a positive performance in the first two months of the year, adding 56.61% and 0.52% more to their export volumes, respectively.
