This Thursday, April 25, addendum No. 2 was signed between the Regional Government of La Libertad and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) in order to guarantee the construction of the Mother Canal of the Chavimochic project.
Said agreement establishes that the GORE of La Libertad—headed by César Acuña Peralta—will formulate, structure and execute the Madre Moche-Chicama-Urricape Canal and the Major Infrastructure Automation System of the Chavimochic Special Project (PECH), within the framework of the completion of the second phase of the third stage of the irrigation project that has been stalled for seven years.
Why will Chavimochic only be 100% in 2031?
Jhon Cabrera, manager of PECH, told La República that, after signing the agreement with ProInversión to complete Chavimochic III, all the information will be delivered so that they can update the studies and make the new public-private partnership design, which would take until May. of 2026.
Once the term has ended, an international competition will be held to hire the concessionaire in June 2026. It is estimated that the construction of the Mother Canal would be in April 2027 and would finish in April 2031.
“Therefore, the completion of all the works of the third stage and its start of full operation would be in July 2031,” I note.
The execution of these works does not include the Cola and Pie de Presa hydroelectric plants, but it does, apart from the Canal Madre and “if viable”, lateral 0 of Coscomba, as well as the development of stages I and II of the Chavimochic Special Project.
The data
The first stage of Chavimochic III includes the construction of the Palo Redondo Dam and the Third Siphon Line through a Government-to-Government agreement with Canada. The contract will be signed on April 30.
