Saudi oil giant Aramco has become the “major global sponsor” of the International Football Federation (FIFA) until the end of 2027. The announcement was made this Thursday by the entity.
The four-year agreement, whose value was not communicated, allows the state-owned company from Saudi Arabia, the only candidate country to organize the world Cup 2034, become a sponsor of FIFA “with rights covering several events”, including the 2026 men’s World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the women’s World Cup to be held a year later.

The powerful Gulf monarchy, rich in oil but often criticized for its human rights violations, has invested billions of dollars in global sport in recent years. This strategy is part of the ‘Vision 2030’ project to transform the kingdom into a business and tourism country, reducing its dependence on income from fossil energy.
“This sponsorship will help FIFA to successfully organize its most important competitions over the next four years and, as with other commercial agreements, will allow it to support the 211 federations around the world,” added the institution’s president, Gianni Infantino .
