20-year-old Russian tennis player Maria Timofeeva had money stolen from her account
Russian tennis player Maria Timofeeva was robbed in Madrid. While in the Spanish capital, a 20-year-old athlete was robbed of more than ten thousand euros from her bank account. Timofeeva reported this on her Instagram account (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).
“I’m just shocked because I don’t know how this could happen. I had the card all the time, except for one moment when I left it in the hotel room while it was being cleaned,” said the tennis player. She added that she did not receive code confirmation messages after each of the purchases made from her account.
Timofeeva came to Madrid to participate in the WTA-1000 tournament. She failed to make it past the qualifying round, losing to Harriet Dart from Great Britain in the final.
