Peru is on track to occupy eighth place as a world fruit exporter in 2024, according to Mincetur

Our country is the world’s leading exporter of blueberries and quinoa grains; the second with fresh avocado, Amazonian chestnut and ginger; the third of canned hearts of palm; and this year it would become the eighth largest fruit exporter, exceeding US$5,681 million in sales in 2023.

“Among the Peruvian fruits best positioned in the world are blueberries, avocados and grapes. In Latin America, Peru is the third largest fruit exporter behind Mexico and Chile. This year, it could become the world’s eighth largest fruit exporter.”, revealed Elizabeth Galdo, head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), at the 22nd Agro-Exporter Lunch of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

Agroexports play a crucial role in the economic and social development of the country, according to the official. Only in the first two months of this year, they grew 13% thanks to the 7.3% increase in fruit exports. Likewise, last year, shipments reached 141 markets: the most important are the United States and the European Union.

The main fruits sent to the world were blueberries, which generated revenues of US$1,705 million, and grapes, with US$1,777 million. Record figures were recorded in both during 2023.

In this sense, Minister Galdo highlights the performance that agro-exports have registered in recent years and proposes that to achieve a better positioning worldwide, they will work together with the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa), the Foreign Ministry and the Commercial Offices of Peru in the World (OCEX) of PromPerú. Likewise, she explained that technological innovation tools, such as the Foreign Trade Single Window, and international trade negotiations will ensure accessibility in the main markets.
