For over 30 years, we have seen them in most housing estates, in the center and on the outskirts. Containers for used clothes are located in almost every city. By donating unnecessary clothes there, we often think that we are helping those in need. The truth is completely different. Where do used clothes really go?
Where does clothing from containers go? Not necessarily where you think
Clothing and accessories from containers are usually collected twice a month. First, they go to the sorting room, where they are divided into clothes, accessories and shoes. Those in good condition are usually sold to second-hand clothing stores, which often share a small portion of the profits with foundations. The cash earned in this way is to go to those in need. Good quality clothes also go to Asia and Africa. In total, as much as 30 percent clothes end up abroad, while 0.1 percent to new fibers.

What happens to old clothes? Most get redone
The situation is slightly different with damaged clothing that is no longer suitable for wearing. In such a case, the clothes are recycled, where they are given a second life, e.g. they are used for industrial purposes. They are used to produce cloths and even fuel. Also in this case, part of the profits is donated to foundations. As we can read on the website, funds obtained from the sale of clothes are used to support aid and educational projects. The collection itself is also intended to support people in effectively getting rid of unnecessary clothes. Instead of throwing them away, you will give them a second life.
How do clothes containers work? A simple way to get rid of unworn clothes
Although collecting unnecessary waste in containers seems simple, in practice it is different. There are many people who throw garbage, glass and even animal carcasses inside. Since containers are emptied no more than twice a month, after that time even undamaged clothes become unsuitable for reuse. Therefore, if you decide to give them as a gift, remember to secure them appropriately. As a last resort, you can also donate them directly to the foundations conducting the collection, or find a similar campaign through social media or groups. Instead of throwing them away, it is definitely better to recycle them. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
