Russia will work with the UN on resuming ammonia supplies via the Tolyatti-Odesa route, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Uralchem’s owner Dmitry Mazepin.

According to the Kremlin press service, Mazepin recalled that during the conclusion of the grain deal between Russia, Turkey, the UN and Ukraine, the launch of an ammonia pipeline between Togliatti and Odessa was discussed. However, according to him, “time has passed, there are no movements.” The businessman also said that “the Ukrainian side puts forward a number of political issues in which we are incompetent, we cannot work.”

Putin, in turn, said that “there are the parameters, the figures are known, the volumes are clear,” and “the gain for all participants in this process is also clear.” “We will also work with the UN, with colleagues from the organization. Let’s see what happens,” the Russian leader added.

Ammonia is a key ingredient in fertilizers. Before the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, the Russian Federation accounted for 20% of the ammonia transported by sea, RBC notes. After the suspension of supplies in connection with the start of a special operation, the UN leadership has repeatedly raised the problem of a lack of fertilizers on the world market. In September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv would only agree to the export of Russian ammonia through Ukraine if Moscow returned the Ukrainian prisoners.
