Fencer the Great: you need to ask management about missing the Games
Two-time Olympic fencing champion Sophia Velikaya appreciated missing the Summer Games in Paris in 2024. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“I am an active athlete, I have my own schedule that I focus on. If I had the opportunity, and I myself decided not to go to the Olympics, I probably would have something to answer. And so all the questions are for the leaders,” Velikaya said.
On April 25, it became known that Russian fencers refused to travel to the Olympic Games in Paris. Sophia the Great could not get there because she is a representative of the CSKA society. One of the points of the International Olympic Committee states that such athletes are currently prohibited from participating in the Games.
Sophia the Great is a two-time Olympic fencing champion, three-time Olympic silver medalist, and eight-time world champion.
