The month of May includes a local holiday in Madrid, that of San isidro labrador. This is the patron saint of Madrid who was born in the capital late 11th century, points out the Royal Academy of History. Tradition states that he had a son. One of his five miracles is related precisely to him. According to Catholic tradition, the prayer of his parents ensured that the little boy was rescued from a well. San Isidro, employed in the tillage of the Earthwas singled out by his colleagues for spending more time praying than working.

So, one day, his master decided to check if this was really true. He approached Isidro’s workplace and observed a heavenly yoke of white oxen helping the saint to do the plowing. On another occasion, a companion of Isidro observed Isidro feeding a group of hungry pigeons and he mocked him for wasting wheat from the mill. However, when she arrived at the mill she found that it was full. Nothing was missing. Beyond his miracles, San Isidro was known for his devotion to the Virgin of Atocha and Almudena.

The saint was buried in the little parish that he always visited before continuing to work, the parish of Saint Andrew. Another miracle is attributed to his death, which says that his body was located 40 years after being buried completely incorrupt and was transferred to the aforementioned church. HE he ended up building a chapel being considered the “shepherd who had helped the Christian hosts defeat the Almohads in the battle of Navas de Tolosa in 1212.” In the 16th century he began his canonization, which culminated in the following century. Finally, Gregory XV canonized him in 1622, along with the Spanish Ignatius of Loyola, Francisco Javier, Teresa de Jesús and the Italian Felipe Neri.

Today it is pattern of Madrid and many other towns and cities. In the capital, for example, every May 15 they organize activities and concerts. Last year there was a parade of Giants and Bigheads, a Festival of Madrilenian Dances, as well as sung stories and different musical genres. A spectacular fireworks display put an end to the festivities. This year, different concerts have been scheduled for the days from Friday, May 3 to Wednesday, May 15, which we present below.
