The American electric car manufacturer Tesla has initiated a recall of almost 1.1 million vehicles in the United States due to the risk posed by a safety device in electric windows.

In a letter published Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) points out that, in several models of the brand, the detection system that should reverse the path of the electric glass in the face of an obstacle would not work correctly.

This potential failure increases the risk of injury to drivers and passengers, whose fingers could be pinched.

The vehicles mentioned are some Model 3 manufactured between 2017 and 2022, Model Y between 2020 and 2021, Model S between 2021 and 2022 and Model X also between 2021 and 2022.

Tesla will conduct a remote software upgrade to comply with federal regulations and send notification letters to owners beginning Nov. 15.

The group owned by Elon Musk says no accidents, injuries, or deaths have been reported from this issue.

Tesla it has already made several recalls this year to remotely update software that can be problematic.

The company has long run these updates without users or regulators being notified, but in recent months it has come under the scrutiny of the NHTSA, which launched an investigation last year after several crashes with emergency vehicles.
