Former Washington coach Boudreau criticized Ovechkin’s play in the NHL playoffs

Former Washington Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau criticized the performance of team captain Alexander Ovechkin in the current playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL). His words are quoted by The Athletic.

“Ovechkin physically cannot do what his mind tells him. He has a very high hockey IQ, but he just stands there and doesn’t move,” Boudreau said. He noted that at 38 years old, the Russian can no longer destroy, hit and do everything with the same energy that he had before.

Washington, with Ovechkin in its lineup, loses the first round series of the Stanley Cup playoffs to the New York Rangers with a score of 0:2. The Russian striker did not score any effective actions in two meetings and made only one shot on target.

Earlier, Ovechkin assessed the defeat in the first match of the playoffs in one phrase. “Everybody needs to play a lot better,” the Washington captain said.
