Superhero cinema is still very popular. The numbers are impressive: over the past 14 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced 27 films and 14 series for Disney +. After the biggest and most important pop culture convention, the San Diego Comic Con, fans know that this year’s Marvel offers won’t end with “Patron Hulk”.
“Werewolf at night” – October 7, 2022
To celebrate Halloween, the MCU will release a short film inspired by the horrors of the 1940s based on the comic book series and a screenplay by Peter Cameron and Heather Quinno. Set in Bloodstone Castle, the story focuses on a secret organization of monster hunters that will fight for a powerful artifact after the death of their leader. Michael Giacchino is responsible for the direction and music. Gael García Bernal will play the title character and Laura Donnelly and Harriet Sansom Harris will play the other roles. The film will debut on the Disney + platform.
“Black Panther: Wakanda in My Heart” – November 11, 2022
The sequel to “Black Panther” directed by Ryan Coogler will be released in November. The film will pay tribute to the deceased actor, Chadwick Boseman, who previously played this character. Despite the delays, the story was completed. Wakanda’s leaders will endeavor to protect their people after the death of their leader, King T’Challi. On the screen we will see Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o and Martin Freeman. There will also be a new face: Dominique Thorne, who will play Riri Williams.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special – December 2022
Special Christmas productions are part of many franchises. They could enjoy them, among others fans of “Shrek” and “Star Wars”. This time it will also be time for “Guardians of the Galaxy”. The occasional film was directed by James Gunn. Do you miss the old school soundtrack? On the occasion of Christmas, there will be another “Awesome Mix”, this time focusing on Christmas. The “Holiday Special” will be available on the Disney + platform. Collectors will also be able to buy Funko Pop figurines promoting the film.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantomania – February 17, 2023
This is the third film dedicated to the character of Ant-Man. Director Peyton Reed will return to the MCU, and the screen will feature Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer. Filming ended in November last year. There is no official trailer yet, but the first concept art was unveiled at Comic Con. Sammy Sheldon Differ is responsible for the costumes, including the suit that is important to Scott Lang, which allows him to shrink to the size of an ant.
“Secret Invasion” – Spring 2023
This is a proposition for fans who miss the character of Nick Fury. Kyle Bradstreet’s series focuses on the Marvel multiverse and draws from the Captain Marvel story and the movie Spider-Man: Far From Home. The plot is to explain the causes of the Skrulls’ invasion of shape-shifting for many years. Famous actors will take part in the production, incl. playing the role of SHIELD director Samuel L. Jackson and Martin Freeman, who will star as Everett K. Ross.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” – May 5, 2023
The new Guardians of the Galaxy movie will be the final part of the trilogy. James Gunn will return to direct as the director, and the cast will traditionally include Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Karen Gillan. We will also see Daniela Melchior from the “Suicide Legion” on the screen. The film was made in parallel with the “Holiday Special”. The third part is to focus on the past of Rocket’s raccoon character, as well as Peter Quill’s longing for the leader of the Ravagers Gamora team.
“The Marvels” – July 28, 2023
The production focusing on the strongest female characters from the universe will hit theaters for the next holiday after having to postpone the release date many times. Brie Larsen will play Carol Danvers again, aka Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani will play Kamala Khan, and Teyonah Parris will play Monica Rambeau. The film will also be directed by a woman – Nia DaCosta. Nick Fury and Valkyrie will also appear on the screen.
“Loki” – Season 2 – Summer 2023
The new season of the series about the beloved villain played by Tom Hiddlestone will hit the Disney + platform. Although the exact release date and details of the plot are not yet known, the actor in an episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” confirmed that in the second season the entire cast known to fans from the first will return.
