Beer Day: how much does the beer sector contribute to the national economy?

The current production of craft and industrial beer in Peru annually amounts to more than 14 million hectoliters, informed the Committee of Beer Manufacturers of the National Society of Industries (SNI) on the occasion of International Beer Day.

The committee also explained that the sector is represented by more than 100 companies, which work daily serving more than 500,000 points of saleas well as distribution points nationwide and related services.

Likewise, the body attached to the SNI highlighted that after the setback suffered by the industry in 2020 due to the pandemic, to date beer has resumed its validity, once again becoming one of the products with the highest turnover in stores and representing 30% of the income of winery families.

“The latter highlights the importance of this product for the income of the 535,000 families that are sustained thanks to the wineries at the national level,” said the committee.

Contribution of the beer sector to the national economy

Finally, the entity remarked that the beer sector has contributed S/ 18,000 million in tax payments in the last five years. In addition, it has remained the main contributor to the Selective Consumption Tax (ISC) in that period.

“In 2021 alone, it contributed S/ 3.1 billion in ISC. In turn, it participates with 0.6% of the country’s total GDP and 4.4% of the industrial GDP with around S/ 4.3 billion”, detailed the union.
