The sum of all the professional fortunes of the 500 richest French last year exceeded one billion euros for the first time, with a growth of 5%, according to the evaluation published by the economic magazine Challenges.
In this classification that the economic magazine has been carrying out since 1996, the ten billionaires who appeared at the top of the list accounted for more than half of the 1,002 billion of the 500 largest fortunes in the country.
Bernard Arnault and his family, owners of the luxury firm LVHMtop that list with 149,000 million euros.
The luxury giant bought the American company in 2021 Tiffany & Co.one of the largest acquisitions in history in that sector.
Their fortune places them in second place among the richest billionaires in the world after Elon Musk, according to Forbes magazine.
In the second place of the billionaires are the heirs of the luxury firm chanell, Alan Y Gerard Wertheimer, with 80,000 million euros. It was their grandfather who was associated with Coco Chanel in 1924. The tycoons reside in New York, and each has a son, who seem destined to be the next generation to run the fashion house.
In third place is the family Hermes, with 78.7 billion euros. It owns 66.6% of this well-known French firm founded in 1837, currently managed by Henri-Louis Bauer and Axel Dumas, which had a growth in its turnover of 40.6% to 8,982 million euros in 2021 compared to the previous year.
In the Challenges list, there are 122 fortunes that exceed 1,000 million euros, a figure that has never been higher. To enter this select club, you must have at least 200 million euros.
