The US military shot down a Chinese-owned balloon off the coast of the country, which ended up in US airspace. AP reports.

According to the agency, an operation is underway to collect the debris.

Recall that the Pentagon announced the Chinese observation balloon in the sky over the United States on February 2. American leader Joe Biden, when asked whether a Chinese balloon would be shot down in the sky over the United States, said that the authorities would “take care of it.”

As ABC reported, the Federal Aviation Administration closed airspace in parts of North and South Carolina where a balloon was seen earlier today.

On February 2, the Pentagon announced that it was tracking a balloon that violated US airspace. The agency named it the Chinese observation balloon. Explaining why they decided not to shoot down the ball, Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said that the object is large and its debris could cause damage. The ministry indicated that the balloon was seen over the state of Montana – there is one of the US bases with nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The Chinese side stated that the balloon is a civilian object used for meteorological purposes.
