Corrections Policy

We correct factual errors promptly and openly. Getting something wrong is not the problem; leaving it uncorrected is.

How to request a correction

Email [email protected] with the article URL, the passage you believe is wrong, and the correct information with a supporting source. Anyone may request a correction, not only the people named in a story.

What we do

We review every request. If the error is confirmed, we correct the article and add a dated correction note at the foot of the piece describing what was changed. Where the error was significant, the note appears at the top.

Types of change

  • Correction – a factual error is fixed and disclosed in a note.
  • Clarification – the facts were right but the wording was open to misreading; we sharpen it and say so.
  • Update – new information has emerged; the article is extended and the update time is shown.
  • Retraction – the central claim does not hold. The article is withdrawn and replaced with an explanation.

What we do not do

We do not silently delete or rewrite published articles to remove errors, and we do not remove correctly reported material on request. Correction notes stay on the article permanently.

Timescale

We aim to review correction requests within two working days.
