Three teenage boys were hospitalised after a stolen moped collided with a Greater Manchester Police car in Wythenshawe on Monday.

Three boys have been rushed to hospital after a stolen moped and a police car crashed in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester.

Officers were travelling at a "low speed" when their patrol vehicle collided with the moped, which was travelling towards them at around 3.45pm on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The boys, aged between 14 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped and theft of a motor vehicle. Further enquiries established the moped was stolen.

All three were taken to hospital. One has since been discharged, while the other two remain in hospital for further treatment.

A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct following the crash.

Police statement

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said on Tuesday that an investigation was ongoing following the collision, which happened shortly after 3.45pm on Monday. Officers were patrolling at low speed around Broadoak Park, Wythenshawe, when their vehicle collided with a moped travelling in the opposite direction.

The spokesperson said that in line with force policy, the incident had been referred to the force's Professional Standards Directorate, which made the referral to the IOPC.
