Irina Rodnina called on federal TV channels not to show the 2024 Olympics
Three-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina called on Russian federal television channels to refuse to show the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
Rodnina believes that there is no point in broadcasting the competition. “Who is there to keep an eye on? Those who need it will watch the broadcast on the Internet or somewhere else. I wouldn’t want any unfriendly national team to be broadcast in the evening,” she noted.
In December, Rodnina assessed the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to admit the country to the 2024 Games. She called the conditions unrealistic and believed that only athletes who would not qualify for medals would go to the competition.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
