Former Russian national team player Alan Dzagoev announced his retirement

Former Russian national team player Alan Dzagoev announced his retirement. This was reported on the website of the Greek football club PAS Lamia 1964.

Dzagoev said that he made this decision due to the abundance of injuries. “I have had a lot of injuries over the past five years, which is why I made this decision so suddenly. I decided that’s enough,” he said, adding that the club tried to persuade him to stay.

The 33-year-old Russian thanked the Lamia staff and fans for the good reception. “Life doesn’t end here, football doesn’t end there – I have thoughts in this direction,” he concluded.

The Russian midfielder joined the Lamia squad in September 2023, signing a contract for one season. He played two matches for the Greek club and did not score any goals.

From 2008 to 2022, Dzagoev played for CSKA Moscow. As part of the army team, the midfielder became a three-time Russian champion, and also won four Russian Cups and three national Super Cups. Dzagoev played 59 matches for the Russian national team, scored nine goals and made eight assists.
