The cost of building a super-powerful head nuclear icebreaker “Russia” may increase from 127.5 billion rubles. by 40-60%, and the terms of its construction should be postponed from December 2027 to a later date, Kommersant writes, citing sources and the minutes of the meeting with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Yevtukhov.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, during the construction there has already been a delay in the production of large hull castings and the cost of work on the production of individual parts of the icebreaker’s nuclear power plant has increased.
According to the minutes of the meeting, Rosneft explained the need to change the timing and cost by disrupting the supply of large hull castings – propeller shaft brackets, ice tooth, rudder blade brackets. They were supposed to be supplied by the Energomashspetsstal plant located in Kramatorsk last year. At the same time, the contract with the new manufacturer, UZTM-KARTEX, has not yet been concluded, and the delivery dates for these parts have been tentatively postponed to August 2025.
By the end of April, based on information from Rosneft, Rosatom will be obliged to send a report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the increase in the time and costs of construction. At the same time, it follows from the protocol that the deputy minister noted “the impossibility of disrupting the deadline for delivery.” Sources of the newspaper said that they had already informed President Vladimir Putin about the need to postpone the deadline.
