Spanish writer Abel Hernández said responsible observers are calling for the King of Spain to visit Ceuta and Melilla after a Moroccan border assault. Hernández stated on August 7, 2026, that an official royal visit is fully justified to address growing insecurity in the secular Spanish cities.
Hernández criticized the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, claiming major national crises could have been limited through preventive policies. He argued that no authorities have faced accountability for recent disasters across the country.
According to Hernández, deaths from flooding in Valencia could have been restricted by channeling ravines as planned. He said less ideological electricity management would have limited a major blackout, proper track maintenance could have prevented the Adamuz train crash, and effective forestry policy would have contained devastating wildfires.
Failures at the Ceuta Border
Hernández described the border breach in Ceuta as a multi-organ failure involving border vulnerability, defenselessness, and intelligence contradictions between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense. He also blamed an irresponsible migration policy and disgraceful submission to Morocco, which he characterized as an aggressor state by action or connivance.
The writer asked who would accept responsibility for approximately 100 deaths during the crisis. He warned that the threat remains active as new waves of arrivals are announced, noting that blocking sea routes and social media networks will prove difficult.
Drawing on his experience during the Green March that resulted in the loss of the Sahara while Francisco Franco was dying, Hernández said he knows the tactics of the Alaouite monarchy. He added that Morocco is acting while Pedro Sánchez laboriously exhausts his term, Israel and the United States take opposing stances, and the European Union looks away.

To address the situation, Hernández urged the Spanish government to reinforce Spanish and European borders in Ceuta and Melilla to the maximum extent possible. He said a responsible administration must demand accountability from King Mohammed VI regarding the border events.
Hernández recommended that Spain ask FIFA whether Morocco should participate in organizing the upcoming World Cup after tens of thousands of young people fled the country in desperation. He also suggested that Spain ask Brussels to review increasingly generous commercial agreements with Morocco, without abandoning collaboration and good neighborly relations.
Finally, Hernández noted that responsible observers view an official visit by the King of Spain to Ceuta and Melilla as an essential warning following the border assault. He emphasized that the royal visit would provide a necessary remedy for the helplessness and insecurity experienced by local residents.
