The second cold war will be more dangerous than the first. According to RBC with reference to the Spanish newspaper Mundo, this was stated by former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
According to him, the second cold war could start between China and the United States, which have comparable economic resources. He noted that this was not the case during the first Cold War.
In his opinion, Beijing and Washington are now opponents and one should not “wait until the PRC westernizes.”
In September 2022, Wang Yi, head of the office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, noted at a meeting with Kissinger that the start of a “new cold war” between Beijing and Washington would be a disaster for the whole world.
“The United States should return to a rational and pragmatic policy towards China,” Wang Yi stressed, adding that Washington views Beijing as its main competitor and long-term challenge due to misperceptions.
Last July, Kissinger warned US President Joe Biden against an ongoing confrontation with China. Geopolitics today require “Nixonian flexibility” to help defuse tensions, he said.
Earlier, the former US Secretary of State said that the growth of hostility between the US and China threatens to lead to a global “catastrophe comparable to the First World War.
