Moscow will experience the peak of a sharp cooling trend early next week as cold northern winds lower temperatures across the Russian capital, weather specialists have warned.
Yevgeny Tishkovets, a lead specialist at the Fobos weather centre, issued the warning on his Telegram channel, stating that the incoming weather would erase the boundaries between seasons as the cold spell reached its peak on the wings of a northern wind.
Addressing temperature forecasts for the upcoming shift, Tishkovets reported that thermometers will show between plus 6 and plus 11 degrees Celsius at twilight. During the middle of the day, daytime temperatures will reach no higher than plus 9 to plus 14 degrees Celsius.
Moscow, the capital and largest city of Russia, is situated on the Moskva River in the western part of the country. The city features a humid continental climate with distinct seasonal shifts, where early September traditionally marks the transition from summer to autumn as daily temperatures begin a gradual decline. The Fobos weather centre is a prominent commercial meteorological organisation based in Moscow that provides forecasting, weather monitoring, and climate reporting across Russian media platforms.
Heavy rain forecast for Saturday
The warning from Tishkovets follows earlier weather alerts issued for the Moscow region regarding an imminent shift in atmospheric conditions. Anatoly Tsygankov, head of a department at the crisis management centre of Rosgidromet, previously reported that heavy rain and a drop in temperature will hit Moscow on Saturday, September 5.
Rosgidromet, formally known as the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, is the Russian federal agency responsible for weather observation, climate tracking, and official environmental forecasting. Its crisis management units monitor potentially hazardous weather events and coordinate emergency alerts across the Russian Federation.
In response to the sharp drop in temperature expected across the capital, Tishkovets concluded his forecast by urging Moscow residents to dress according to the weather.
