Journalists at BGR have listed alternative ways to charge a smartphone, in an article published on the outlet's website.
BGR's authors said plugging a device into a wall outlet through an adapter remains the most popular way to charge a smartphone or other gadget. But without an outlet nearby, they said, a power bank or other methods can work instead.
The most unusual option they named was connecting a smartphone to another smartphone with a cable. According to the specialists, in that setup the phone with the lower battery charge is the one that receives power.
Power banks and car ports
A power bank was named a popular charging method. BGR's authors explained that external batteries typically support fast charging standards such as USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and Programmable Power Supply (PPS).
The authors said that if a portable charger is not on hand, using a car's built-in USB port is a good option. They advised against charging a device for long periods this way if the car's engine is off, since that can drain the car battery.
Earlier, journalists at MakeUseOf explained how to choose a suitable power bank for a smartphone, saying it is important to consider not only battery capacity but also voltage, wattage, and even the type of cable and adapter used.
