Tom Holland Expected to Earn $100M from Spider-Man Film

British actor Tom Holland is expected to earn more than $100 million from Spider-Man: Brand New Day following its box office success.

The star received an upfront salary of $20 million to reprise his role as Peter Parker. According to reporting by The Wrap, that base pay will be far surpassed by box office bonuses after the movie grossed $2 billion worldwide.

The Marvel superhero blockbuster crossed the $2 billion global threshold within three weekends of its July 31 release. A source speaking to the outlet stated that there is no monetary cap on the amount Holland can earn from the film.

Decade of Rising Marvel Paychecks

Holland's earnings across the Marvel Cinematic Universe have grown steadily over the past decade, starting with his debut appearance as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. He was paid $250,000 for that first role, which marked the beginning of seven total appearances as Peter Parker to date.

He subsequently received $500,000 for 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. His compensation continued to climb with 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, which earned him $4 million, and 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, for which he received $10 million.

According to the report, the 2021 release concluded Holland's initial six-movie contract with Sony Pictures for the role. That original deal also covered his appearances in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

Holland's financial success led an industry executive to describe him to The Wrap as the new Robert Downey Jr. The executive noted that his financial trajectory mirrors that of the Oscar-winning actor during his tenure in the Iron Man franchise.

Downey received $500,000 for the first Iron Man movie in 2008. By 2013's Iron Man 3, his total payout had increased to approximately $50 million, comprising a $10 million upfront salary plus backend revenue shares.

The Hollywood actor went on to earn substantial sums for further Marvel projects. He received $10 million for a brief appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming and generated more than $100 million in total from his co-starring roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
