This is another example of how dangerous deepfake, a technique that involves changing the face of a person visible in a video, can be. This time, the technology was used in fraud, and the image of Polish national football player Robert Lewandowski was used in the recording.
Fraudsters used Robert Lewandowski’s image for a scam
The video was published a few days ago by one of the fake Facebook channels. In the first seconds of the recording we see a person sitting at a table with Robert Lewandowski’s face superimposed on it. The footballer allegedly shows Internet users how to “earn 10,000 euros or more in a short time.”
Later in the video, the authors of the video present an application for smartphones, which is supposed to enable quick earning through activity in a mobile game. Finally, we see the bank’s application and an account with over PLN 100,000 accumulated. zloty. The authors of the recording emphasize not to be discouraged by failures on the first day of the game.
This is, of course, a typical scam. However, in order to make the application advertising credible, the authors used the image of a very famous person. Therefore, it is worth watching out for similar videos appearing on social media.
