The number of pensioners in Russia has reached almost 40.5 million, RIA Novosti reported, citing data from the Social Fund. According to the Social Fund, there were 40.475 million registered pensioners in the country as of July 1, 2026.
Regional payouts and proposals
It was previously reported that the average pension for non-working Russians exceeded 35,000 rubles in seven regions in July 2026. The highest average payments were recorded in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug at 40,000 rubles.
Prior to that, State Duma deputy Sergei Mironov proposed setting pension payments at a minimum of 40 percent of a person's average earnings during their final year before retirement.
