Sony Corporation has reported sales of a new generation of virtual reality headsets. This is reported by TechSpot.

Media journalists got acquainted with the report of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which the head of the company, Jim Ryan, presented to investors this week. Launched at the end of February 2023, the PlayStation VR 2 headset sold 600,000 units, according to its data. Ryan emphasized that this is a success: according to statistics, Sony has sold eight percent more devices than the first generation of PlayStation VR helmets were sold in the same period after the launch of the device.

Ryan also said that in the first week alone, a record 450,000 headsets were sold. Journalists calculated that over the following weeks the company sold another 150,000 PSVR2 units. It also turned out that sales of the first generation PSVR grew more consistently and faster than its successor, with just over 300,000 units sold in the first week.

In early February, Bloomberg sources said that the PSVR2 helmet failed in sales, as demand for the headset was low. TechSpot journalists noted that Sony refutes this information with its report, but emphasized that the company lowered its production forecast for the PlayStation VR 2 from two to one million units. However, by March 2024, the Japanese corporation intends to sell 1.5 million PSVR2 units. It is noted that for all time 5 million units of the original PSVR headset have been sold.

The PlayStation VR2 helmet went on sale on February 22, the device was valued at $ 550, or about 44 thousand rubles.

At the end of March, Bloomberg analysts said that Sony would announce discounts on the PS VR2 helmet. According to experts, in this way the corporation will attract additional attention to the device and increase sales.
