Russia reacted to the IOC statement on new requirements for admission to Olympic Games-24

Deputy Svishchev doubted the words of the IOC about the absence of additional recommendations for Russians

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev doubted the statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) about the absence of additional recommendations for the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games. He shared his opinion in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

“Indeed, the IOC made such a statement. But how definitive it is is actually difficult to predict. At the same time, I would like to note that even the existing criteria for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Olympic Games have little to do with sports. More politics. More restrictive measures. My opinion is that there are even more dubious legal measures that limit human rights,” Svishchev responded.

At the same time, the deputy noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee to make the final decision on the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games.

“We are carefully waiting for the consultations to take place and what decision will be made,” he concluded.

Earlier, the IOC said that there would be no additional recommendations on the issue of admitting Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games. “We refer you to the decision of the IOC Executive Committee of December 2023, as well as the principles for its implementation. There is nothing more to add,” the organization noted.

In December 2023, the IOC decided to admit Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympic Games. Athletes will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, citizens who support a special military operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not get to Paris. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
