Vladislav Tretyak said that Russian hockey players cannot be banned from leaving for the USA
President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) Vladislav Tretiak made a statement about the departure of Russian hockey players to the United States. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Tretyak considered that it was impossible to forbid the athletes to leave. “We are an open country. Or do you want to put up an iron curtain?” he asked. The official added that the FHR and the Continental Hockey League (KHL) are trying to keep the Russians in their homeland and give them the opportunity to reveal their talent.
Earlier, the president of CSKA Moscow, Igor Esmantovich, proposed to include issues related to the departure of young hockey players overseas into the KHL development program. He proposed to consider the issue of non-departure of athletes to North America.
At the end of the 2022/2023 season, Russian hockey players Ivan Miroshnichenko, Nikita Chibrikov, Maxim Groshev and others signed contracts with the National Hockey League (NHL) clubs.
