The French Justice confirms the imputation of actor Gérard Depardieu for rape

The Paris Court of Appeal confirmed this Thursday the imputation of the actor Gérard Depardieu for rape and sexual assault after the complaint filed by the interpreter Charlotte Arnould.

Prosecutor Rémy Heitz indicated in a statement that the investigation of the case “considers that there are serious or concordant indications that justify that Gérard Depardieu continue to be charged” for facts that date back to August 2018.

The 73-year-old French film legend applied in May last year for the annulment of his indictment six months earlier in this case. But the known rejection today of that demand makes the case return to the investigating judge.

The events for which he is accused happened at the actor’s Parisian home on two different days, August 7 and 13, 2018, according to the French media at the time.

Depardieu, known to the general public for films such as “Cyrano de Bergerac” (1990) or for the Asterix and Obelix saga, knew the young woman’s father and was in contact with her to give her advice on her career.

The girl, who was 22 years old at the time, said that he abused her in the context of an informal rehearsal for a play.

Days later, Arnould appeared at the Lambesc Gendarmerie police station, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, to report the events.

Depardieu has always denied the accusations and after being charged, on December 16, 2020, he was released without judicial control. (I)
