Eva Ionesco will turn 58 this year. As she often admits, her childhood was traumatized. All because of how her mother – photographer Irina Ionesco – guided her life and career. The artist became famous thanks to controversial works whose main character was Eva. The photos of the woman began to arouse considerable interest, as many of them were pornographic.
Mother’s parental rights were taken away
When the girl turned 11, her mother sold a nude photo shoot with her participation to the Italian publisher of the magazine “Playboy”. Thus, in 1976, Eva Ionesco became the magazine’s youngest model. Photos of the naked 11-year-old were also published in the Spanish “Penthouse” and the German “Der Spiegiel”. In 1976, Eva starred in the film The Tenant directed by Roman Polanski. A year later, her mother’s parental rights were terminated, and the girl was placed in the temporary care of the parents of her friend, Christian Louboutin. After her childhood experience, Eva wanted nothing more to do with the world of fashion.
Irina Ionesco punished after years
Eleven years ago, Eva sued her mother. The lawyer Jacques-Georges Bitoun, who represented her in court, asked: “How can you spread the legs of a four-year-old girl and take a picture? If the art is to photograph a child in such poses, then I don’t understand anything about art.” The court convicted Irina Ionesco and fined her 10,000 euros for violating her daughter’s privacy and copyright. In turn, in May 2015, the Paris Court of Appeal banned the photographer from “exhibiting, selling or transferring” photos of Eva without her consent. In addition, he ordered her to pay 70,000. euro compensation.
