Bill Cosby will appeal the civil verdict in which ordered to pay $500,000 to a woman he allegedly raped nearly five decades agosaid a spokesman on Wednesday.
The man once considered “America’s dad” was accused of predatory behavior by dozens of women in complaints dating back decades.
But after a criminal conviction against him was vacated on a technicality, Tuesday’s civil judgment in California is so far the only legal showing of guilt.
Despite the ruling, a spokesman for the veteran artist said the case was a “stunning victory” for Cosby and that he will appeal.

“Yesterday, actor and comedian Bill Cosby won a stunning jury victory in a civil suit brought by Judy Huth,” said spokesman Andrew Wyatt, in a statement published by Variety.
“Jurors decided to award Judy Huth $500,000, but voted 9-3 not to award Ms. Huth punitive damages,” it added.
During two weeks of hearings in the civil trial, which Cosby did not attend, the jury heard how the comedian met Huth, then 16, on a film set in the mid-’70s, how he gave her copious amounts of alcohol. her and a 17-year-old friend and took them to the Playboy mansion, where, according to the plaintiff, he raped her.

“Within a few weeks, (Cosby’s) attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, (…) will appeal the $500,000 verdict, which means Mrs. Huth will never receive any payment from Mr. Cosby.”Wyatt said in his statement.
Gloria Allred, attorney for Huth, now 64, said the award “proves” the jury “believed” her client.
Cosby, now 84, was a leading figure in late 20th-century American popular culture, and rose to fame as the affable obstetrician and father Cliff Huxtable on “The Cosby Show”which ran from 1984 to 1992.
About 60 women, many of them aspiring actresses and models, publicly called Cosby a serial predator. who for more than four decades harassed his victims, giving them sedatives and alcohol before raping them. (YO)
