The head of US diplomacy, Antony Blinken, met with Xi Jinping, president of China, to manage differences between Washington and Beijing with the aim of strengthening their bilateral relationship. Along these lines, Xi Jinping stressed that “China and the United States must be partners, not rivals.”

Both countries maintain transcendental relations and negotiations for Peru. On the one hand, the North American giant is positioned as an important market for our agricultural exports. Only in the first two months of this year, agricultural exports—whose growth was more than 12%, with a sum of US$1,862—had the United States among their main destinations.

On the other hand, China represents 32% of local exports. Until 2023, our shipments to the Asian country registered a growth rate of 13.2% annually. That same year, exports totaled US$23,156 million.

In addition, the port and commercial hub that is being developed between Chancay and Callao will allow progress with the Ancón Industrial Park and generate annual income of more than US$10,000 million. which will allow us to surpass the current record of US$65,000 million in exports in 2023 and will position Peru as the main commercial bridge in the region towards Asia and the world..

In that sense, the responsible management of the differences between China and the United States—in order to stabilize the relationship between both countries—represents an important opportunity for Peru to continue strengthening the commercial relations it maintains with the great powers. One of Blinken’s requests to Beijing was that he not continue helping Russia with the supply of defense components, as that could overshadow relations that have been improving since the summit between Biden and Xi Jinping in 2023.
