On December 18, Peruvians will be able to enjoy the new Jorge Chávez International Airport; However, the current terminal where thousands of people transit will not be part of this new megaproject. For this reason, La República spoke with the manager of Real Estate LAP, Paola Olaya Arana, who explained what will be done with the current passenger terminal and how the project is progressing.
The new airport is more than 80% complete
The new Jorge Chávez Airport is already more than 80% complete and the familiarization process is being carried out by the community involved. This was reported by Paola Olaya. “In infrastructure we have more than 80% progress. Much of the equipment is installed. We are in the finishes. In addition, we have had a working table with community entities, such as airlines and operators, entering into the process of familiarizing themselves with the flows of the new areas of the new terminal.”
The impact it will have on the Peruvian economy will be reflected in the GDP, in addition to the movement related to the tourism sectors, with more than 1,500,000 dollars, which will represent 0.6% of GDP at the national level. Likewise, it will generate more than 121,000 jobs. At the tax level for the State, it has been calculated, at least until 2023, around 5 million dollars.

What is planned to be done with the current passenger terminal?
Along these lines, Olaya Arana told La República that, for the current space of the Jorge Chávez air terminal, they will seek to give it a new use. To this end, various market studies are being carried out in order to identify what type of commerce can be implemented.
“The passenger terminal is no longer a passenger terminal and, in that lot, the idea is to have it for commercial, business and aeronautical use; For this we are studying the market and seeing the interest of investors,” commented Olaya.
Working together with residents of Callao
Likewise, according to the manager of Real Estate LAP, they have been working with the neighbors close to this new construction. “Since 2019, we have around 46 locations of direct influence, in which we have worked on different employability and entrepreneurship programs. The idea is that they feel that this growth is also part of them,” Olaya pointed out.
Along these lines, to make this project a reality, we have worked together with different entities, such as Senasa, municipalities, Customs, Immigration, airlines, and aircraft service operators. “I highlight this articulated work that we are having with all the interested parties of the community to make this project a reality and begin operations this December 18.”
