Clarinet virtuoso Aris Mougkopetros has returned to live music performances one year after suffering a hand amputation caused by a firecracker explosion at a festival.
Speaking during an interview on the television program Prowini Enimerosi on Wednesday, August 19, the Greek musician reflected on his recovery and his decision to resume playing. He stated that he has left his injury far behind, feeling as though nothing ever happened.

The accident occurred during a festive celebration when a firecracker detonated in his hand, resulting in a severe injury that required amputation. Despite the sudden loss, Mougkopetros continued his rehabilitation until he was able to return to the stage for live shows.
Overcoming adversity after hand injury
Addressing viewers on the morning broadcast, Mougkopetros shared a message of optimism regarding personal hardship. He emphasized that difficulties can affect anyone, but stressed that the most important response is never to give up.
He added that if individuals persevere through their trials, he is confident that the time will eventually come when they receive what they deserve. His return to stage performances marks a major milestone in his musical career following his recovery.
The clarinet holds a central place in Greek folk music, particularly during traditional festive gatherings known as glentia. Playing the instrument requires precise finger movements across keys and tone holes, making a hand amputation a particularly devastating setback for a professional musician.
Public support and fan interactions
Mougkopetros credited the overwhelming support of his audience with helping him cope throughout his recovery. He explained that the love shown by the public over the past year exceeded anything he could have imagined in his wildest dreams.

Recalling a specific interaction, the musician described meeting an elderly man who embraced him and wept over his suffering. Mougkopetros noted that receiving such empathy from someone who had lived through so much was a unique experience that could never be replaced.
He expressed gratitude to God for allowing him to live through these experiences as he continues performing. He remains focused on his live appearances and continuing his musical work.
