Peruvian journalist Víctor Caballero has questioned the motives behind broadcast footage showing his fiancée with another man, claiming the television report carried political undertones.
Caballero, 35, addressed the controversy on his digital program after television host Magaly Medina aired video showing his partner, Carla Campos Salazar, alongside Alonso Grimaldo.
In Peruvian entertainment media, an ampay refers to undercover paparazzi footage broadcast on television gossip shows to expose celebrities, public figures, or their romantic partners in private moments. Medina, a prominent broadcaster in Peru, has built her nightly entertainment program around revealing such covert recordings.
Speaking on his show Brutalidad política, Caballero, who is known online as Curwen, acknowledged feeling hurt by the footage. However, he stated that while Medina's program thrives on exposing public figures, he believed political interests were also at play in broadcasting the images of his girlfriend.
Allegations of Political Undertones
Caballero said there was an evident hint and whiff of politics behind the decision to air the footage, citing the critical stance of his own political commentary show. He stated that people should not pretend otherwise regarding the background of the report.
At the same time, the writer clarified that he did not possess concrete evidence to prove a coordinated campaign against him. He noted that he would not claim a political party had set a trap for him or that government officials were actively persecuting him, explaining that he refused to indulge in conspiracy theories without proof.

Caballero emphasized that his perspective was a personal impression rather than an established fact, acknowledging that the release of the footage might simply align with the standard entertainment focus of Medina's program.
Election Coverage and Media Criticism
Defending the impact of Brutalidad política, Caballero stated that his program had been tough on numerous political candidates and had actively criticized the current Government. He noted that during the first round of the presidential election campaign, his team worked with a budget of just four soles and successfully brought down several candidacies through their reporting.
To support his suspicion of political motivation, Caballero broadcast clips during his show in which Medina referenced politician Keiko Fujimori, highlighting positive remarks the TV host had made toward Fujimori. Caballero suggested those statements reinforced his belief that political bias could have influenced the broadcast.
Following the television exposure, Caballero and Campos Salazar removed their joint engagement photograph from their social media profiles. Caballero previously remarked that he had been blinded during the ordeal.
Reactions and Statements
The broadcast also drew responses from other public figures and individuals involved. Grimaldo, the man seen with Campos Salazar in the recording, commented after the images aired that he had imagined himself appearing in Forbes magazine.
Meanwhile, television presenter Paco Bazán offered public advice to Caballero regarding the incident, remarking that a family could not be built under those conditions.
