Real Madrid and Manchester City managed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Champions League this Wednesday March 9 after eliminate PSG and Sporting Portugal respectively.

The great match of the day was played at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Real Madrid and PSG provided a spectacular match that ended with a 3-1 victory for the local team. Despite the defeat that Real Madrid conceded in the first leg (1-0), the Madrid team won the ticket for the next phase of the competition.

The first half had rhythm and several chances and goals. PSG warned a couple of times in the first few minutes, with two actions by Mbappé that goalkeeper Courtois stopped. Karim Benzema was the player who finished off the chances that the local team had. Messi was also able to score in the 25th minute, but the goal was too small for him when he saw Courtois in front. In the 34th minute, the referee annulled the goal scored by Mbappé, due to offside by Nuno Mendes, who was the one who gave the pass to the Parisian team’s striker. However, five minutes later, Mbappé scored again (0-1) and this time the goal went up to the scoreboard.

At the start of the second half, Mbappé saw a goal disallowed again. The PSG striker was offside when he received the ball. Real Madrid pressed higher, began to generate chances, and in the 61st minute found the prize: Donnarumma fell asleep with the ball at his feet inside the box, Karim Benzema went to pressure and touched a ball that hit Vinicius, he gave the pass to the French attacker and Benzema did not forgive (1-1).

After Real Madrid’s goal, the team led by Ancelotti was far superior to the rival. Madrid generated several clear scoring chances, but the goal never came. Ancelotti’s men did not cease their efforts, and in the 76th minute Benzema scored the goal that made it 2-1 after receiving a masterful pass from Luka Modric inside the area.
Real Madrid’s second goal leveled the tie. In addition, the Madrid team did not take long to score the third goal, since Benzema made it 3-1 and scored the hat-trick. In the final stretch of the game, Real Madrid had the match under control, did not give the rival options and won. PSG has been eliminated from the Champions League.

On the other hand, Manchester City also sealed their pass to the quarterfinals after a goalless draw with Sporting Portugal (0-0). City won the first leg 0-5 and completed the process in the second leg.
