Patrice Evra, in an interview for The Times, spoke about his past and his career as a professional. The player, who triumphed in some of the most important clubs in Europe during his professional career, offered a preview of his biography to the aforementioned English media … and revealed that he was abused when he was a child and was staying at the home of one of his teachers three nights a week.

The former player related how his teacher tried to touch him when he thought he had gone to sleep and that he “pushed and hit him.” He also added that the teacher was “sexually aroused” and “touched himself” while trying to remove Evra’s clothes.

“I am not ashamed when I admit that I felt like a coward for many years not to talk about it. It was something that was squeezing my chest. But I am not doing this (talking about it) for myself, but for the children. Evra has not wanted to talk about it until now, but recalled that, when his career as a footballer began to take off, the police contacted him. Apparently there were quite a few complaints about that teacher, so they wanted to discuss the matter with him. Patrice, at the time, said she hadn’t tried him. “I regret that decision,” he said.

As a young man, he did not dare to tell his mother the truth. That is why he tried to convince her not to stay at home anymore. The player continued recounting the situation, but the most important message he left was dedicated to the children: “If you are a child, you read this and they are abusing you, do not be afraid: tell about it.
