The lawyer revealed the possible timing of a verdict in the Valieva case

Lawyer Antseliovich: the verdict in the Valieva case could be rendered in two weeks

Sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich revealed the possible timing of a verdict in the doping case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words are reported by “Championship”.

Antseliovich said that the decision will not be made immediately, as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is taking time to think it over. “If it is agreed that the operative part will be announced first, that is, a decision without substantiating the reasons, then it will be announced a little earlier – this could take from two weeks to two months,” she said.

The specialist noted that if the parties do not agree and want to immediately receive a full decision with a reasoning part and justification for sanctions, then rendering a verdict may take up to a year.

Hearings in Valieva’s case are being held at CAS from September 26 to 29. During the event, four parties will be heard: the skater herself, the World Anti-Doping Agency, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency and the International Skating Union.

At the 2022 Olympic Games, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to the doping scandal involving her. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
