The body of an 80-year-old woman who vanished from her home in Revel was pulled from the Cammazes lake in the Tarn department of southern France on Saturday, after firefighter divers conducted an underwater search of the reservoir.

Her family raised the alarm on Saturday morning after finding she had left the house without warning. The woman had been suffering from depression and had previously attempted to take her own life on multiple occasions.

Gendarmes from three departments were mobilised to search for her: the Haute-Garonne grouping, the Tarn grouping, and the Tarn-et-Garonne grouping.

During the afternoon, investigators found her car parked near the Cammazes dam in the Tarn. That discovery focused the search on the large reservoir, which stretches across the communes of Cammazes and Sorèze.

Firefighter divers deployed from Albi then carried out an underwater investigation of the lake and recovered the woman's body.

Final verification checks were under way at the request of the Toulouse prosecutor's office to definitively rule out any third-party involvement in her death and to formally confirm her death as a suicide.
