Latvian athlete Elizaveta Polstyanaya on Instagram (social network banned in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) reported that she was denied a performance at the upcoming World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.

“Very important post for me. Unfortunately, “sport outside of politics” is empty words, however, we have long been convinced of this … I was not allowed to reach the goal that I had been striving for all my life. It’s a shame? I will not lie and superhero. Yes, it’s terribly insulting, as if half of you were destroyed, ”said Poltyanaya. She added that her main goal was to adequately represent Latvia in the international arena.

Polstyanaya was born in Latvia to a Russian family. She began her career in Russia, but in 2018 she received Latvian citizenship and began to play for the national team. At the 2021 World Championships, the gymnast took 15th place in the individual all-around, at the 2022 European Championships she was in 12th place.
